Wisdom of Crowds Storm Path Predictor

Please select a storm

About: In his book, The Wisdom of Crowds, author James Surowiecki describes how input, aggregated from groups of people, can often be better than individual judgements, even from experts. An article about this book, describes one of the anecdotes:

"In 1968, when the submarine Scorpion went down in the north Atlantic, the navy had only the most general idea of where it was. Yet, using the expertise of various experts in diverse disciplines, and combining them through mathematical formulas, a naval officer managed to determine its resting place within 220 yards."

In this experiment, we are collecting input about where Internet users believe a storm will go next. Select a storm from the given list, and add prediction points. These data will be gathered and analyzed to see how good a diverse Internet group is at predicting storms. No personal data is collected in this experiment. The application is made with Google Maps, and the storm data is provided by http://hurricane.terrapin.com/
