Human Resource Development
Through the CRCD efforts we involved undergraduate and graduate students in Machine Learning research. From Fall 2003 until Spring 2007, 77 students have been exposed to Machine Learning research, through the Machine Learning I and II classes, through senior design project assignments, through Independent studies or through freelance teaching efforts. Of these 77 students 52 students have been assigned 35 Machine Learning projects (some of the projects were group projects). Of these projects 32 have been completed, 1 is still in progress, and 2 have not been completed. Of the 32 completed projects we produced 16 conference presentations, 10 conference publications, 6 book chapter publications, and 4 journal publications. Furthermore, we anticipate one more conference submission, and one more journal submission as a result of the work that the students have completed in this CRCD project. For more information about these conference and journal publications please see Section 7. Of the 52 students involved in Machine Learning projects 6 of them were pursuing a graduate degree when they took the Machine Learning II class. The remaining 46 were pursuing their BS degree at UCF. Of these 46 undergraduate students that took the Machine Learning-II class, 6 are still pursuing their BS degree, and 40 have graduated. Of these 40 graduates, 23 of them opted to continue their graduate studies at UCF or another institution (58%), while 17 of them opted to work in the industry/government sector (42%).
Of the students who have been partially supported by the CRCD (5 Masters and 16 Ph.D.’s), 6 Master and 5 Ph.D. students have graduated, while the remaining 9 Ph.D. students are still pursuing their Ph.D. degree at UCF, and one Ph.D. student left UCF to pursue her Ph.D. at the University of Florida. It is expected that all of these 9 Ph.D. students will graduate by the summer of 2009. The names of the Master and the Ph.D. students that were partially supported by CRCD are listed below.
